While the game itself received a US release and is relatively well known, I thought that the packaging for the Japan-only limited edition was interesting enough to be worth a look over here*.

Everything is housed inside a large thick card slipcase; rather than creating a standard box the inner “book” slots into the slipcase with the spine showing. The book itself only has a single page – a quote from Sergeant Joe on the front and a basic map of the region covered in the game on the other, with all the other contents stored opposite in the hollowed out interior of the book.

The game, in terms of both packaging and content, is identical to the standard Japanese first print edition with no marks or codes that would distinguish one from the other. The other contents however are all unique and to date are still exclusive to this set. The first is a short music CD containing just four tracks, all of which are arrangements that can’t be found anywhere else. Accompanying this is a Konamistyle branded (no Suikoden branding at all on this) clear CD holder. Two other items are inspired by the Flame Champion – a cute plushie and a more refined metal bookmark with his image stamped into it. The set is rounded off by two square mousepads featuring illustrations of the main characters.
