Fushigi no Gensokyo Origin

Original Title
Official Website
Modelled after the perennially popular “Fushigi no Dungeon” series, Fushigi no Gensokyo Origin is part of Aqua Style’s Touhou-laden take on the genre now spanning two series (the second series is titled “Miracle Party”) with six games and two expansions between them.
Origin itself is something of an anomaly – it’s a refined, but not totally remade, version of the first Fushigi no Dungeon game using the engine from Motto!? Fushigi no Gensokyo Plus and was released as freeware, presumably to celebrate the end of the series and also help promote the new Miracle Party series start.
The game plays almost exactly like Chunsoft’s Shiren games, with just about every item, enemy, trap and piece of equipment having a parallel Gensokyo equivalent. As with most Touhou games, the player controls Reimu and is both helped and hindered by a wide range of other characters, often echoing their canonical personalities (such as Yuuka only showing up in the flower-filled levels and Rinnosuke running the shop). There are thirty floors in total with a break every now and then to purchase items and heal. The game can be suspended at any time although as is expected for the genre this is purely for player convenience, the option to reload from a selection of previous saves doesn’t exist.
The Fushigi no Dungeon series was recently compiled into into Fushigi no Dungeon Chronicle with some further tweaks, although Origin isn’t included (as they changed the original Fushigi no Dungeon slightly again for this new set it would be considered redundant).
The official website link I gave is a HTML file – Aqua Style took down the original official page recently and Google’s cache was all that was left, so this is the best I could do.
The downloadable version of the game (currently still available via the mirror links on the HTML archived website) is almost identical to the CD version bar a few minor changes - CD version is 1.0, download is 1.01.
